Strategizing and putting it to work!
Well, after my post last night didn't take, I had difficulty finding motivation to write again! But, here I am. Last week, 3-5 August, was spent strategizing with our 10-person tourism team about how our program was going to develop tourism in Romania. There are a lot of exciting projects going on, but there was really no coordinated effort amongst the different projects and offices. I think most of that is changed now. On Sunday, I arrived, many bags in tow, back to Sibiu, in Transylvania. Being here in the field has been challenging, holding multiple meetings per day, which take twice as long due to translation, and trying to grasp my head around how I can best help the project(s).
Well, I think I've been sucked in now. I'm working on multiple projects, including promoting a "Greetings from Romania" postcard campaign for kids, coordinating a local Cheese and Brandy festival in September, and organizing a study tour for Romanian glass artists to the Pilchuck glass school, near Seattle, WA, in October. And this is just for starters! All in all, I'm happy to be here and be working, actually using this thing attached to my neck. It's nice, I feel like my opinion and skills are really valued, and that the projects I am working on have the potential to make a real impact. I'm hoping that my experience here will help me further down the line, too. I'm not quite ready to give up on my dreams of being an archaeologist, but I'm willing to follow this path right now as far as it will go. It'd be great to combine the two, and hopefully, I'll figure it out someday. I'll just have to wait until it comes to me, I guess.

No other interesting stories to tell. Oh, but here is "Ureche," a lone, older pup that followed our car for about a mile down the road. I think he was hungry, and was pretty socialized for a stray, though he wouldn't let Scott or I actually touch him. Can you guess what "Ureche" might mean?
This weekend, I will be moving to cute little pension, called Pension Ela. It has a kitchen, laundry facilities, and a lovely German Shepard named Lassie (pronounced "Lacey", in Romanian). I think I'll be quite happy there. Only thing is that there is no direct line to my room, so y'all have to call my cell phone. Sorry!
Well, that is the end of my first full, what I consider to be a real week on the job! Quite exhausting! More to come next week! Ciao!

Is Ureche "stray"? I tried a brief search on the internet which would've led me to the conclusion that it means "ear"...
I always thought Mark was a good name for a dog. Loyal, scruffy, likes bacon, etc.
I think we have a winner..."ear" it is!! :-) And who said "Mark"?
